SERIES ONE - MODEL KIT CONCEPT PROTOTYPES

ZUNKEN K750

SQUADRA

SKORP TROOPER

My name is Miguel. My love for machines comes from the times were as a child I was building Lego models from the robots in Mazinger Z. I studied engineering looking for those giant robots, but instead I found one-meter-long math equations (I have seen math strings beyond the rings of Orion). I made an acrobatic jump and became an animator, and later a concept designer at Sony/Guerrilla Games. From then on, I developed my true love of designing machines and vehicles. In my view, a good concept is not only form following function, shape is the first thing your eyes will see. And the challenge is to give a beautiful shape to a functional design. I get my inspiration from natural shapes. But there is no point in doing so if there is no strong idea behind it and a way in which that idea may be realizable.

Engineering taught me the mindset to solve those challenges, and for 20 years I have developed from its root projects like Killzone and Horizon Zero Dawn, where I proved this approach.

With Skorpicus, I'm bringing my wildest ideas to life, and I want you to be part of the adventure. Assemble and paint these kits, and you'll become the final piece in bringing these concepts to life.

So, what do you say? Ready to dive into the world of Skorpicus and make some magic happen? Let's do this!

Skorpicon Engineering: A Motorbike Sculpture Journey

  • Squadra bike on the workdesk

    Dream it.

I begin the design process by sketching in a notebook by letting my mind wander, attempting to clarify the hazy ideas that timidly emerge in my thoughts. It's like searching for a cryptid animal in the jungle, attempting to capture an image that verifies its existence. Sometimes I just capture a fragment of it, others, an impressive full shot. These imaginary photographs are my sketches. When I examine them, I piece together the puzzle and clarify what this concept represents. If it’s strong, it becomes worthy of further development.

  • Zunken Sculpture 3D printed

    Build it.

Once the concept has been established, I move on to the 3D modelling phase. I create a model that is designed with a mechanical structure in mind. I take into account the need for the bike to be assembled and that it will be 3D printed as a small scale sculpture. Furthermore, I pay close attention to the details of the design, ensuring that all elements are functional. It has to suggest how the concept would be implemented in the real World.

  • Ride it.

Lastly, I search for a distinctive finish by painting the sculpture with different techniques. The choices show how this design is used in many ways, telling many stories. The functional design becomes now a standalone design piece, blending technology and traditional craftsmanship. It is the proof of concept of the original idea. The model kit version allows you to take over this step, and complete the concept in your own way.
